No. 51 Samuel Cunningham
Samuel died January 3, 1935. He was born in Fillmore, Missouri. His funeral was held on January 6, 1935 at 1p.m. at the Stamey Funeral Home. He died from meningitis (not epidemic type). The certifying physician was Dr. Good. Samuel was married at the time of his death and was 55 years old. He had worked as a laborer. He was buried in Fillmore, Missouri. His funeral costs were charged to his son, Delbert O. Cunningham, who resided at 2901 North 8th, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. A note for $21 cash was signed by Roy Gay; and John, Floyd, Delbert and Thomas Cunningham.

No. 170 Jesse L. Bowles, Sr. (Also, spelling BOLES given.)
Jesse L. Boles, Sr. died on May 25, 1936 at his home on Amazonia Road in Amazonia, Missouri. He was age 73 years, 10 months and 11 days. He was born on July 14, 1862. His funeral service was held at his home on May 27, 1936 at 2 p.m. He was a widower. He worked as a farmer all his life. The funeral was ordered by Jesse L. Bowles, Jr., and funeral expenses were to be charged to Mrs. Stella Fuller. All payments for the funeral were made by Jesse L. Boles, Jr. He was buried at Green Cemetery.
NOTES: Jesse L. Boles, Sr. was born Jesse Louis Bowles, son of William Valentine Bowles and Nancy J. Jones. He was born in Morgan County, Missouri and moved to Andrew County, Missouri after both his parents were deceased. He moved to Andrew County in 1879. Jesse was known as Big Jess. He was my great-grandfather. His son Jesse, Jr. was my grandfather.
Big Jess used the spelling "Bowles" until approximately 1879, and during the later years of his life used the spelling Boles. Most of his siblings also changed the spelling of their surname to Boles.
Jesse, Jr. used the spelling Boles his entire life, but a few school records showed the spelling of Bowles.

No. 303 Benjamin Hamilton Palmer
Benjamin Hamilton Palmer was born on March 10, 1883 to "James C. Palmer" and Sarah "Dinwittie." He died on June 10, 1937 at the age of 54 years and 3 months (and 0 days). He worked as a farmer/laborer. He was Pentecostal. He died of "acute indigestion" and the cause of death was certified by Dr. Tadlock, the coroner. His funeral was held on Sunday, June 13, 1937 at 3 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home. He was buried at Green Cemetery. The funeral was ordered by Mrs. Mamie Palmer of 2121 Washington, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. Mamie was Ben's wife.
NOTES: Benjamin Hamilton Palmer was known as Ben Palmer. His parents were James K. Polk Palmer (known as Polk Palmer) and Sarah Ellen Dinwiddie. This death record is the only time in which her maiden name was shown as "Dinwittie." Family tradition stated that Sarah's maiden name had been Mutter, although I have never found documentation for the surname of Mutter.

No. 323 Mamie Palmer
Mamie Palmer was born on March 10, 1889 to Joseph Reddick and Margaret Freese. She died on August 9, 1937 at 1105 Lincoln, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. Her son, Marvin M. Palmer, was to be charged for the expenses of the funeral. Marvin resided at 2121 Washington, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. Mamie was the widow of Benjamin Hamilton Palmer. Her funeral was held on Wednesday, August 11, 1937 at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home, with services being conducted by Reverends Caldwelder and Neall. She attended church at "Pentecostal No. End." She was age 48 years, 4 months and 29 days at the time of her death. The cause of death was cancer of the cervix and uterus.
NOTES: Mamie's first marriage was to a man surnamed Rice.

No. 352 Gladys Boles (Bowles)
Gladys was born to John William Boles and "Carter" on April 5, 1902. She died on December 18, 1937 at RFD #2. Her funeral was held on December 20, 1937 at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home, with the service being conducted by "Sister Ava." Gladys died of "anginis pectorius." The certifying physician was Dr. James H. Nichols, coroner. Gladys was single. She was buried at Green Cemetery. Her funeral was to be charged to her brother, C. E. Boles, who lived in Avondale, Missouri. (This would be Charles Everett Boles.) The funeral was ordered by Al Jennings and her father, John William Boles. NOTES: Gladys used the spelling BOLES for her surname. She is buried at Green Cemetery near the back fence. Her grave was marked by a tin plate funeral home marker. The marker is no longer on the grave but is broken and lies on the ground. Gladys was buried alongside her parents. Her mother's name was Malissa (or Melissa) Ann Carter.

No. 481 Robert Tilton Palmer
Robert was born December 24, 1877 and died May 9, 1939 at the age of 61 years, 4 months and 15 days. He was the son of Polk Palmer and Sarah "Dinwittie." He died at his home located at 108 South 3rd, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. The funeral was ordered by and charged to Dewey Johns. Robert was employed as a commission broker (fruit). His funeral was held on Thursday, May 11, 1939 at Stamey Funeral Home. His wife's name was Ollie. He was buried at Green Cemetery.
NOTES: Robert was married to Ollie Todd. His father was James K. Polk Palmer and his mother was Sarah Ellen Dinwiddie.

No. 553 Mrs. Mabel Clark Palmer
Mabel was born on June 7, 1887 in Brookfield, Missouri and died on March 6, 1940 at the age of 53 years, 8 months and 29 days. She died at her home at 3121 Burnside, St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. The cause of death was carcinoma of the uterus and her death was certified by Dr. Allaman. Her funeral was held on Saturda, November 9, 1940. Her father was William J. Clark who was born in Illinois, and her mother was Emma Bates who was born in Nebraska. She was married to Ross E. Palmer and the funeral was charged to Mr. Palmer. She was a Baptist.

No. 633 Bessie May Cunningham
Bessie was born on December 17, 1883 in Andrew County, Missouri to Jim Finchum. (Her mother's name is not given.) She died on November 14, 1940 at 1215 Faraon from "acute congestion kidneys & lungs, extreme cold & hypothermia." She was attended by Dr. Robertson who practiced at 6210 ½ King Hill. She resided at 2900 North 4th in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. She was age 56 years, 10 months and 27 days at the time of her death. She was a widow at the time of her death. Her funeral was charged to Luther, Floyd and Lester Cunningham (her sons). She was buried at Gravel Wall Cemetery near Fillmore, Andrew County, Missouri.

No. 719 Inf. Dau. Of Jesse L. Boles
This little girl was stillborn on August 12, 1941 at 9 a.m. She was buried on August 12, 1941 at 4 p.m. Her parents were Jesse L. Boles and Sylvia Susie (Cunningham) Boles of Andrew County, Missouri. She was buried at Green Cemetery.

No. 1271 John W. Boles
John was born on February 14, 1865 in Missouri. His wife, Melissa, predeceased him. John died on November 4, 1946 of mitral insufficiency at his residence at 708 North 4th in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. Dr. Tadlock certified the death. The funeral was held on Saturday, November 9 at Stamey Funeral Home at 1 p.m. John was buried at Green Cemetery.
NOTE: John's grave is at the back fence of Green Cemetery and marked by a tin plate from Stamey Funeral Home. His grave is located between his wife, Melissa, and his daughter Gladys. Gladys was buried to his left and Melissa was buried to his right. Melissa's grave is not marked. (Gladys' grave was marked by a tin plate which has broken off it's post. The marker lies on the ground.) John was born in Morgan County, Missouri to my gg-grandparents, William Valentine Bowles and Nancy J. Jones.

No. 1377 John Raymond Palmer
John was married to Mary Elizabeth Palmer at the time of his death. John was born on June 12, 1906 in St. Joseph, Missouri and died on Saturday, June 7, 1947 at Methodist Hospital, St. Joseph, Missouri. He died of a subarachnoid hemorrhage at 1:30 p.m. He was buried on Monday, June 9, 1947 at Mount Auburn Cemetery. His father was William H. Palmer, who was born in Missouri, and his mother was Grace M. Dulph, born in Iowa. John belonged to the I.O.O.F. 143 and A.F. & A.M. 376. He was employed as a truck driver. He was age 40 years, 11 months and 25 days when he died. His cause of death was certified by Dr. Potter.

No. 1452 Cleophas Goldie Mae Cunningham
Cleophas was born on April 8, 1936 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Mose Richardson and Emma. She died on December 14, 1947 at Methodist Hospital, St. Joseph, Missouri of "glomerulo nephritis" (kidney disease) at 11:05 p.m. She was buried on Wednesday, December 17. Her funeral was held at 2 p.m. that afternoon at Stamey Funeral home and she was buried at Ashland Cemetery in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was survived by her husband, Lester Cunningham. At the time of her death, she resided at 1019 Atchison, St. Joseph, Missouri. Also surviving of the home were sons James, Jr. and Everett.
NOTE: Cleophas was known as Gertrude Cunningham. She was married to James Lester Cunningham, Sr.

No. 2102 Isadora Burtnett (Dora) Cunningham
Isadora died on November 8, 1951 at 12:50. (a.m. or p.m. was not specified) She died at Methodist Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri. At the time of her death, she resided with her husband at 1219 North 9th, St. Joseph, Missouri. Her funeral was held on November 10, 1951 at Stamey Funeral Home at 10 a.m. She was buried at Fillmore, Missouri. Her parents were noted as Marion F. Burtnett and Margaret Noble.
NOTE: Dora was my g-grandmother. Her parents were Marion Francis (Tom) Burtnett and Margaret (Lottie) Noble.

No. 2474 William Floyd Dinwiddie
William resided at 409 E. Highland, St. Joseph, Missouri at the time of his death. He was a widower at the time of his death. He was born on November 30 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Richard Dinwiddie and Josephine Lavette. He died at his residence on December 17, 1953 at 4:45 p.m. from pulmonary fibrosis. The cause of death was certified b Dr. Pifer. The funeral was held at Stamey Chapel at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 1953. William was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Survivors included his wife, Mrs. Marie Dinwiddie; his daughters, Mrs. William E. Stone of Hyattsville, MD, Mrs. Donald Penigot of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Mrs. Dorothy Boyd of the home; brothers John and Ben Dinwiddie of St. Joseph, Missouri; and sisters Mrs. Herman Gross and Mrs. Hulda Butterfield, also of St. Joseph, Missouri.
The pallbearers were Jack Dinwiddie, Roy Butterfield, Elza Butterfield, Clyde Anderson, Charles Butterfield and Roy Cook.

No. 2531 Earl Clifton Cunningham
Earl was born on January 6, 1918 in Andrew County, Missouri to Samuel Cunningham (see No. 51) and Bessie M. Finchum (see No. 633). He was married to Dorothy. He resided at RFD#2, 3rd State Road. He died on April 24, 1954 at 8 p.m. on route to Sister's Hospital. He died from a coronary thrombosis. The cause of death was certified by the coroner, Dr. _____ Tadlock. He was a laborer at Sister's Hospital. His funeral was held on April 29, 1954 at Stamey Funeral Home and he was buried at Gravel Wall Cemetery, north of Fillmore, Missouri.
His survivors included his wife, Dorothy; and brothers Lloyd of Craig, Missouri, Delbert of Forest City, Missouri, and Luther of Hoquiam, Washington. NOTE: Earl was known as "Tuffy Cunningham."

No. 2666 Lola D. Bartlow
Lola was born in Bolckow, Missouri on April 18 (1895) to Clement V. Cunningham and Dora Burtnett. She married William R. Raleigh. They resided at 1219 North 9th at the time of Lola's death on January 28, 1955 at 9:50 p.m.. She died of myocardial failure at Sister's Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri. Her funeral service was 11 a.m. on January 31, 1955 at Stamey Funeral Home and she was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery.
She was survived by her husband William Bartlow; daughters Lula Bartlow of Chicago, Mrs. Edward "Liffring" of Wathena Kansas, and Mrs. Roy Sontheimer of St. Joseph, Missouri; her son William A. Bartlow of Kansas City, Missouri; brothers Lester and Elmer Cunningham of St. Joseph, Missouri; and sisters Mrs. Jess Boles and Mrs. Fred Greenlee, Sr. of St. Joseph, Missouri. The pallbearers were James Bowers, Guy Kelly, Harold Boon, Don Devers, Charles Bartlow, Jr., and Orville Spaulding.
NOTE: Lola's full name was Lola Dell (Cunningham) Bartlow.
Mrs. Edward "Liffring" should have been shown as Mrs. Edward Leiffring.
Mrs. Jess Boles was my grandmother, Sylvia Susie (Cunningham) Boles.

No. 2822 William Hays Sollars, Jr.
William was born on April 16, 1889 in Buchanan County, Missouri to William Hays Sollars, Sr. and Sarah C---ter. (Canster?) He died of pulmonary tuberculosis on December 25, 1955 at the State Sanatorium at 1:40 a.m. He was attended by Dr. Maple of Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He was Catholic. He was a produce man. He was a widower. His funeral was conducted on December 28, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 9 a.m. He was buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
He was survived by his daughter, Mrs. George Halterman of St. Joseph, Missouri; his son, Donald H. Sollars of Shawnee, Kansas; his sister, Mrs. Lulu Sontheimer of St. Joseph, Missouri; his sister, Mrs. Polly Hanlin of St. Joseph, Missouri; and his brother, Frank Sollars, of Detroit Michigan.
NOTE: If anyone can provide information about this man or his family, I'd appreciate it. I am certain he is connected to my family, but I have not been able to make the connection. Does anyone know if "Mrs. Lulu Sontheimer" could be Lula Isadora Bartlow?

Benjamin Harrison Augustine was born on July 18, 1889 in Savannah, Andrew County, Missouri to John Augustine and Sarah Carter. He was married to Elizabeth. He was employed as a night watchman. He belonged to the American Legion. He died of pulmonary fibrosis on June 17, 1957 at the V.A. Hospital (Wadsworth, Kansas). His funeral was held at 3 p.m. on June 20, 1957 at Stamey Funeral Home. He was buried at Ashland Cemetery. He was a veteran of WWI and his Social Security Number was 496-03-9967. His widow was Elizabeth Augustine. Benjamin and Elizabeth resided at 117 W. Louis, St. Joseph, Missouri at the time of his death.
He was survived by his wife; by his son Albert Augustine of St. Joseph, Missouri; by his daughter, Mrs. Dorothy DeFiesta of Kansas City, Missouri; by his brothers John A., Albert A., and Charles of St. Joseph, Missouri; by sisters Mrs. Dora King of Agency, Missouri and Mrs. L. L. Fox of St. Joseph, Missouri; and by three grandchildren.
NOTE: Elizabeth's maiden name was NOBLE, the daughter of Henry Clay Noble, Sr. and Emma Jane Hana.

Nora Irene Bartlow was born on September 23, 1909 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Wakefield Elliott and Sarah Emily Pendleton. She married Charles R. Bartlow. The couple resided at 3011 North 9th, St. Joseph, Missouri at the time of Nora's death on March 2, 1959. Nora died of a coronary occlusion at 1:15 p.m. in St. Joseph, Missouri. The funeral was at 1:30 p.m. on March 4, 1958 at Stamey Funeral Home. She was buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery. She had worked as a seamstress at Kirwin's. She was survived by Charles R. Bartlow, her husband; and sons Jack Dale Bartlow, Jim Lee Bartlow, and Jerry Lawrence; her sister, Mrs. Essie Calvert of St. Joseph, Missouri; and her brother Mr. L.A. Elliott of Hastings, Nebraska. Pallbearers were Frank Gerber, Russell Sa-er, Elwood Clark, Roy Sontheimer, Ed Leiffring, and Donald Gordon.

Terry Lee Cunningham was born on May 14, 1958 at Sister's Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri and died at 1:45 p.m. He died of congenital atelectasis. His father was George Cunningham and his mother was Geraldine (Carter) Cunningham. The funeral was held on May 19, 1958 at the City Cemetery. His parents resided at 1222 Sylvania, St. Joseph, Missouri. Terry was survived by his parents; siblings, Faye Louise, Linda Sue, Deborah Kaye, Kenneth Ray, Michael Dean, and Steven Randolph; maternal grandparents Mr. And Mrs. Fred Carter; paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Cunningham; and paternal great-grandmother Mrs. Rose Gilpin. All survivors resided in St. Joseph, Missouri.

James was born at Cameron Community Hospital, Cameron, Missouri. His funeral was held on August 29, 1958 at his gravesite at Memorial Park Cemetery. His parents and sisters lived in Stewartsville, Missouri. Maggie was married to Henry Stallsworth. They lived at 1507 Highland Avenue, St. Joseph, Missouri. She was born on March 5, 1877 in Cainsville, Missouri. She died on May 4, 1959 in St. Joseph, Missouri at 77:25 a.m. of general carcinomatosis. Her funeral was at 1:30 p.m. on May 7, 1959 at Stamey Chapel. She was buried at Antioch Cemetery, Gower, Missouri. Her father was William Stallsworth and her mother was Adeline Holland. She was survived by daughters Mrs. Minnie Shaw of 901 6th Street, Greeley Colorado; Mrs. Emma Miles, Pryor, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Ruie Oder of 1507 Highland Avenue, St. Joseph, Missouri. She was also survived by sons Fred Stallsworth of 1208 South 6th, St. Joseph, Missouri and George Stallsworth of 2332 South 12th, St. Joseph, Missouri. She was also survived by her sister, Mrs. Fannie Jefferson of Picynne, Mississippi, and 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

William was born on June 15, 1886 in Marysville, Kansas. His parents were Franklin David Bartlow and Lue Kennard. He was married to Lola Dell Cunningham (see No. 2666). He died at the age of 73 years, 6 months, 18 days on January 3, 1960 at Sister's Hospital. He died of natural causes. He was a maintenance man at the Corby Building in St. Joseph, Missouri and a member of Eclipse Lodge 143 and the I.O.O.F. His funeral was held on January 5, 1960 at Stamey Chapel at 1:30 p.m. and he was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery. He was survived by his daughters, Mrs. Roy Sontheimer who resided at 1219 N. 9th Street in St. Joseph; Mrs. Edward Lieffering; Miss Lula Bartlow of Chicago, Illinois; and his son William A. Bartlow of Kansas City, Missouri as well as 5 grandchildren. The pallbearers were Joseph Smith, Norval Spaulding, Thomas __ater, Chris Bartlow, Guy Kelly, and Harold B_____.

No. 3653 Ralph Eddie Young
Ralph was born on October 21, 1896 in Savannah, Missouri to William Henry Young and Sarah Ellen Bowles. His wife was Etta (Marten) Young. Ralph was 63 years, 2 months and 23 days old at the time of his death from generalized carcinoma on January 14, 1960. His funeral was held on January 18, 1960 at Stamey Chapel at 1:20 p.m. He was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery. At the time of his death, he resided at 1915 Main Street, St. Joseph, Missouri. Survivors included his wife, Etta; his sister, Miss Julia Young of Savannah, Missouri; and brothers Frank Young of Savannah, Missouri; Fred Young of Albion, Nebraska; Claude Young and Raymond Young of Kansas City, Missouri. Pallbearers included Wylie Kinney, Howard Ezzell, William Rieley, Clarence Stefferns, Harold Wille, and R. M. Ramseier.

No. 3660 J. Lester Cunningham (James Lester Cunningham)
James was born on January 31, 1900 in Andrew County, Missouri to Clement Vlandingham Cunningham and Isadora Burtnett. (See No. 2102.) He was a maintenance man at Western Ch____ Co. He died of "general carcinomatosis" on Sunday, January 24, 1960 at Sister's Hospital at 8:04 a.m. at the age of 59 years, 11 months and 23 days. His funeral was held on January 26, 1960 at Stamey's Funeral Home at 3 p.m. and he was buried at Green Cemetery. He was married to Cleophas Goldie May Richardson. (See No. 1452.) He was survived by sons Everett A. Cunningham and James L. Cunningham, Jr. He was survived by sisters Mrs. Fred Greenlee, Sr. and Mrs. Jesse Boles, as well as his brother Elmer Cunningham who resided at 701 Main, St. Joseph, Missouri. Pallbearers were Johnny Cunningham, George Cunningham, Roy Arnold, Joe B. Greenlee, Sonny Russell, and Billy Richardson.

No. 3687 Prince Albert Cooley
This was Prince Albert Patrick Cooley. (His tombstone lists him as Princes A. Cooley.) He was born on March 29, 1875. His parents names were not given on the certificate. (He was the widow of Nannie Bell Cunningham.)
