Original Star Chapel Church, at Empire Prarie, from the photo collection of Jessie Bennett Crawford. Per John Bennett: "The building in the back has to be the outhouse. Think it was still there when I was growing up in the 1940's, however a much larger and newer church was erected in the early 1900's. By 1950 they had running water and converted an old storage room to a toilet." (photo contributed by Jessie's son, Bennett Crawford, and nephew, John L. Bennett. ) |

The old Blue School district split and became Garfield and Empire School districts about 1879. These articles are old, but I don't know how old. Probably were printed in the 1930's or 40's. (photo contributed by Jessie's son, Bennett P. Crawford, and nephew, John L. Bennett. ) |
